About the McClains

My first affiliation with Miami Valley Antique Fire Apparatus Association was when I met with three other people in February 1996 to explore the possibility of reviving the dormant Greater Dayton Chapter. At that time I was elected President and served in that capacity for nine years. I now, as of 2010, serve as Treasurer and Membership Chairman . In 1997 I organized the first annual Miami Valley Antique Fire Apparatus Show and have chaired that event every year since.
My wife, Rachel, has been very supportive and serves as my
administrative assistant. Our son, Matt, is a lieutenant with Dayton Fire
Department. He also owns a 1958 American LaFrance pumper and serves as
Vice-President in the MVAFAA.
Fire Apparatus Owned:
1950 GMC/Young mini-pumper: Purchased in October 1999 from a retired volunteer firefighter in Boston, New York. Research has shown that this mini-pumper is a “one-of-a-kind”. The Young Fire Equipment Corp. switched from a ¾-ton chassis to a 1-ton after building this truck. The truck has undergone a frame-up restoration that began in January 2000 and was finished in June 2001.
1953 Lyman Fire Boat: This 13-foot Runabout was restored and converted to the “Twin Creek Fire Boat” in 2006. It is not a working fire boat. The fire equipment was added to give it the “look” of a fire boat.
