Larry Suttman and I before a parade with the Big Boy
Hello, I'm your humble, amateur
web site manager. In the
real-world I am a professional, union fire fighter for the Department of
Defense with a unique work schedule that would likely confuse a mathematician, BP engineer, or a Fox News reporter.
I have been with the fire service for
about ten years.
In addition to my full-time job as a Driver/Operator (or Engineer as others would describe it), I balance other pursuits and interests: everything from improving this site to protecting my home from garden gnomes. Another devotion of mine is being an active part of the Good and Welfare Committee and Secretary/Treasurer of the International Association of Fire Fighters, Local F-88.
I am occasionally involved with projects associated with Larry's Suttman's prized Seagrave engine. I am also privileged to be one of those who he frequently asks to attend the Dayton area's parades in his famous pumper. Larry was the only one to show me the correct way to wave in a parade--for that I will always be grateful. Another unknown fact to most: I was the first to drive his 1937 Seagrave pumper off the hauler when it was delivered several years ago--and yes, I was extremely uneasy about doing so (what engine has a standard transmission anymore?) but there was no damage during that memorable event (except for Mrs. Crabtree's inconveniently placed pink flamingos).
If you have an idea for this site that would make it better let me know.
I do not have an antique fire apparatus to boast of--sad for me. I do, however, have a couple of favorite pics to share:
